8 Tips to make your home babyproof

As the name says; baby proofing home means- making your home safe for your baby. It may seem strange to baby-proof your home when your infant can’t even roll over, but you’ll be amazed at how quickly they’ll be moving around and getting into everything. So it’s never too early. Take the time to baby-proof your home while your child is still a newborn or even before they arrive.

It’s time to make your home babyproof:

When it comes to babyproofing your house, you need to consider different things. Don’t know how to start with it? Continue reading to know how to babyproof your house and make it safe for little ones.

#1 Tie it down

From tv to fridge there are different furniture items in a home. The furniture in your home could be dangerous for little babies. For example; your baby can bang your head on a sharp edge of a table. Use furniture straps to secure TVs, bookcases, dressers, and other heavy furniture in any areas where your kid may be left alone for even a minute.

Do not place a television on top of a dresser; the drawers can be utilized for climbing. Any furniture with sharp edges should have a corner or edge bumpers installed.

#2 Keep the cords away

Cords in a home could be dangerous. You can use cord holders to keep longer cords fastened against the wall. This prevents your child from tripping over a tangle of computer cords and another electrical wiring. This could protect your infant from electrical risks or heavy equipment that falls after a couple of small tugs. Also, when it comes to chargers and other electronic devices like hair straighteners etc, keep them away from your child’s reach.

#3 Give your baby a safe sleep

Check that your baby’s crib has fixed railings. If you must utilize an older crib, remove the drop-side rail or install an immobilizer. (Cribs with drop-side rails are not permitted.) Check that your baby’s head cannot fit between the slats of the crib. They’re too wide if you can fit a Coke can between the slats.

Give a safe sleep

Keep soft materials such as blankets, pillows, plush animals, and bumpers away from your baby’s sleeping area.

#4 Keep the medicines away:

Always make sure to keep all medications in a high, lockable cabinet. Never remove medication from its original childproof container. If you take medicines in front of your child, they may emulate you. Never refer to medicine as “candy.” Also, do not flush expired medicines down the toilet. Put them in a sealed bag with something your child won’t want to eat – like kitty litter or coffee grinds – and dump it away.

#5 Lock it up:

Keep curious children away from home cleaners and other chemicals by putting them in locked cabinets or installing safety latches that lock when the cabinet door is closed. Do the same for any low cupboards that store potentially dangerous objects, such as small appliances. Keep hazardous things up high and away from little fingers for enhanced safety.

#6 Avoid Shocks

To protect your child from an electric shock- cover any exposed electrical sockets with outlet covers. If a baby or toddler pulls a little outlet cover out of the wall, it might become a choking hazard. Look for “childproof” lids that must be removed with two hands or cover plates that screw on. Place heavy furniture in front of outlets for added security.

#7 Safety during tub time

Tub time is the fun time but make sure to make it safe. Adjust your hot water heater so that the water is no hotter than 120 degrees to avoid scorching. To protect sensitive heads, add no-slip strips to the bottom of the tub and a soft cover to the faucet. Most importantly, never, ever leave your baby or toddler alone in the tub.

#8 Toy Safety

Baby toys must be safe for infants. To prevent choking, your child’s toys should be significantly larger than their mouth.

Check that all toy parts, such as doll eyes or teddy bear bows, are firmly fixed and cannot be pulled off. Remove crib mobiles as soon as your infant can push up on their hands and knees.

Takeaway:

The greatest approach to baby proof is to see things through the eyes of your child. Get down on your hands and knees and begin crawling. What’s at baby’s eye level and easily accessible? Kids can be fascinated by anything, including computer cords and glassware on low shelves. When you’re towering above anything, you could miss breakable or dangerous stuff. Raising a baby is not a piece of cake. Parents have to consider different factors. Making your home baby proof is important to prevent the accidents and to protect your little ones.
